Efficiency in decision-making

If we analyse the reality of companies, we see that one of the essential tasks is decision-making. It is difficult to imagine a company where there is no manual process of approval for the decisions to be taken.

Efficient management: analyse, decide, execute and compare

The best managers are usually those who can best analyse reality, make decisions efficiently and, lastly, best check the outcome of their decision against the analysis that led them to make it. That is why we believe that any Management Support System should be based on two solid foundations:

- A real-time analytical tool
- A workflow management tool designed to distribute quickly and efficiently decision-making tasks.

Today's blog will focus on the second point, since it is often overlooked in companies, yet it can contribute the most value.

Efficiency in decision-making should be seen on three different levels:

  1. What conditions should generate a flow of approval for someone to make the decision? While not everything requires complex decision-making processes, it is important to have a continuous analysis system that detects when something needs it. Essentially, we are talking about an automatic system that decides which transactions should trigger a flow of approval and decision-making and which ones should not.
  2. A logic that chooses who should receive the approval task.
  3. A messaging system that distributes both the approval or decision-making tasks and automates the following steps based on the decision-maker's response.

Let's take a look at a scenario found at any company:

  • A seller enters an order into the management system.
  • Depending on the order conditions (e.g., the discount level), someone must decide whether or not the order is accepted.
  • The approver receives a message with a task or decision to be taken
  • Depending on the approval decision, the system should continue automatically. If the order is approved, it must be released automatically for fulfilment. If it is not approved, it must be blocked, and sales must be notified to handle it.

This type of decision occurs hundreds of times each day in organisations, and only companies that use cutting-edge tools can make it efficiently.

SAP Business ByDesign is an integrated management solution that includes a configurable approval workflow manager within its set of features that can easily be deployed to help companies in their daily decisions.

Thanks to this feature, Business ByDesign brings a lot of added value to companies at a very low cost. This frees up a lot of time to carry out other types of tasks while ensuring that no decision is left ignored.
